“The Battle of the Bed & Breakfasts”


This competition pits local chefs against one another as they race against the clock to create the best meal for the celebrity judges – but of course there’s a catch! Contestants must use the local ingredients given to them in the “surprise basket”. Hosted by Orlena Cain of MIX97.1FM and Dave Mc Gowan of The Duke of Wellington.


Orlena Cain

Orlena Cain worked as a promotional spokesmodel and hostess for over 15 years, independently and with a few very well established promotional companies in the Greater Toronto Area. Through the years, she has covered a lot of ground, working closely with campaigns for international, multi-million dollar companies.

Orlena is a multifaceted talent who began her radio career hosting “The Cutting Edge” on CHRY on 105.7, York University Radio. She started her own online magazine called SUGARCAIN ENTERTAINMENT, where she mentored young female journalists, covering fashion, film, beauty, music and movies from national and international artists. She continued her radio career as a traffic reporter for 5 years with Skywords Traffic, moved on to ET CANADA as a chase producer and then landed at The Shopping Channel for over 4 years working as television host beside countless celebrities. Orlena currently is a co-host on the Morning Show with Sean Kelly on MIX97.1FM and works independently in event planning and promotions.

Orlena donates a lot of her free time to child abuse prevention with various organizations, supporter of the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies Provincial Campaign and volunteer at the local Quinte Humane Society for her love of animals.

Dave McGowan

Currently Head Chef The Duke of Wellington and Owner/ Chef D&D Catering. Trained in North Bay under the Elusive Breckels twins. Has been cooking for 32 years with his first executive chef position at 21. Avid gardener growing herbs and vegetables for both home and business uses. Food philosophy: “Good food takes time, great food takes passion, and if you have both I want you in my kitchen”. Formerly Executive Chef at Georgian Hospitality International/ Division of Georgian Airways, Northern Restaurant Group and Executive Sous Chef at Prime Restaurant Group.

He’s cooked for some of the big names in the music industry, Jeff Healy, Air supply, Lee Arron, Back Street Boys. He loves traveling and bringing back new spices to play with from Cuba, Germany, Iceland, Dominican Republic and New Orleans.


Melanie Aubert

Melanie Aubert loves all things food and wine and writes about both on her blog Wining with Mel. Born in France, raised in Toronto, and now living in Ottawa, this graduate of Algonquin College’s sommelier program is a strong advocate of local wines. She firmly believes that good company, beautiful scenery, and a glass of wine can cure all ills, which is why she loves to visit the County any chance she gets.

Rebecca Mackenzie

Rebecca is passionate about agriculture, tourism, and culture. She is lucky in her role as Executive Director for the Culinary Tourism Alliance as it enables her to work with stakeholders from a variety of sectors across the province, the country and the globe, supporting the development of local economies through building new business partnerships and community driven experiences that showcase “taste of place”.

Over her tourism development career, Rebecca has been instrumental in developing tourism products including Prince Edward County’s award winning Taste Trail and Arts Trail; OCTA’s Feast On™ designation program; and her own sports tourism business – the Terroir Run.

Rebecca instructed at the Bonavista Institute for Cultural Tourism and has developed curriculum for George Brown College. She leads new business development for the Terroir Hospitality Group and contributes her expertise to a variety of industry Boards including the Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation and the UNWTO’s Gastronomic Tourism Network.

Born and raised in Toronto, Rebecca spent her summers in rural Ontario. In her grade 12 year of high school, Rebecca sailed with Class Afloat on a 156-foot tall ship to 20 countries in Europe and Africa – an experience that rooted her passion for travel and adventure.

Dyan Perry

Raised in Hastings County, Dyan moved to Toronto to chase her dreams and enjoy the hustle & bustle of city-life. With a background in luxury brands, loyalty marketing, communications and both print & digital media, Dyan has worked with many prestigious national and international brands. All of her marketing experience has lead her to establish her own social media marketing company called “Social Graces Marketing” where she helps her clients with all of their social media, digital marketing and branding needs. Dyan is also the Founder of Toronto lifestyle blog “GenerationYYZ”, a go-to guide for Millennials of Toronto to live their lives to the fullest! Dyan remains connected to the Hastings & Prince Edward County area as the Lifestyle Editor of Quinte region’s “Healthy Living Now” magazine, working remotely from Toronto.
